Born in Toronto, Rob MacLean grew up in and around the Montreal area before moving to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia where he now resides with his wife and two children.

Known for his excellent vocal range and ability, Rob has several years experience as a lead singer and rhythm guitar player. He has an engaging stage presence and a great amount of energy which is displayed during his live performances.

Rob has had the great fortune of being in many bands and has shared the stage with such notable performers as Natalie MacMaster and Tracy Dares and most recently he has performed with Cape Breton artists Cyril MacPhee and Buddy MacDonald and The Accents.

Canadian artists such as Bruce Guthro and Blue Rodeo have strongly influenced Rob's musical interests, direction and development which is shown through his songwriting.

 

His straight from the heart lyrics and powerful voice have been a winning combination in 2002 as it has been a great year for Rob as he embarked on a solo career. In May, Rob was the opening act at Strathspey Place in Mabou, NS for the popular Songwriter's Circle. In September 2002, Rob, won the Casino Nova Scotia's Kitchen Party Showcase Showdown. Rob performed at the North Sydney Exhibition grounds for a Christmas Daddies charity. He appeared on ATV/ASN morning show Breakfast Television.

Rob and Cyril MacPhee took to the road in the spring of 04 for a tour of Quebec and Ontario. Rob performed for the Casino Nova Scotia’s big outdoor concert for the start of Action Week in Sydney, NS in August/04.

In Feb, 05 he opened the ECMA Yamaha 72 Hour Jam and also performed again on the Jam. He appeared on Live at 5 on The Scene with ATV’s Mairianna Bachynsky with an interview and coverage of playing on the Jam stage. He also showcased at Strathespey Place Suite held at Cambridge Suites in Sydney. He performed at The Acoustic Café hosted by Coastal Radio out of Cape Breton which was a live to air performance.

He has a self produced CD, to his credit titled Two Little Angels with good friend Cyril MacPhee co-producing. The CD has both original and selected material by other songwriters he admires.
